what is your creative philosophy?

Imagination and creativity come naturally to me. I find it relaxing and rewarding when I sit down and design something new, be it a drawing, painting or a 3D model. It may take me numerous sketches before I am happy with the final result, and then it needs to be given a function or history, so that I can add varying levels of detail to suit.

For a ship or vessel - hatches, intake vents give the vehicle a sense of scale. Even the interior will be planned out to make sure the mechanics are laid out correctly and reinforce the vehicles size.

When I draw a character I will draw out the main design and then give it a history and purpose so that details accentuate the characters personality and give it more substance.

what are your key influences?

Growing up I was fascinated by the Space Shuttle missions and collected newspaper articles. I even wrote to NASA (with Mums help) when I was nine saying how exciting each launch was to me. 6 months later I received a package containing exclusive photos of Shuttle Columbia and pamphlets on various mission briefings. Those launches were and continue to be an inspiration to me, and after 20 years, I still have that package from NASA.

My ideas seemed to focus on the future and advancement of technology. Science fiction was a natural step with endless possibilities. In particular, movies and series like Star Wars and Star Trek. One with it's harsh edges and gritty appearance in the struggle between good and evil, and the other, smooth lines and bold colours on a journey of space exploration. I guess I search for perfection within a fictional-reality.

do you take on commisioned work?

Designs will be done for interested parties on a quote by job basis with credit given to the artist. Please contact me here.
